We believe our purpose and calling as a
church is to be
“A Mosaic of God’s
Family...
GATHERING, GROWING, and GOING.”
We believe each phrase of this mission gives us a
biblical framework for the living of our lives, both corporately (as a
church congregation) and personally (as individual Christians):
*
“A Mosaic of God’s Family...” (Ephesians
2:12-14,19-21; Galatians 3:26-29) At East Cobb UMC, we celebrate our
diversity as a congregation - ethnically, racially, theologically,
politically, and in the ways we worship and practice our Christian faith
– and view it as a reflection of the character and nature of God.
* “GATHERING to embrace God and all people” (Isaiah
56:8; Hebrews 10:19-25) As people of faith, we are called to worship God
and fellowship with others
* “GROWING in faith, love, and joy” (Ephesians 4:1-16)
As God’s people, we are also called to practice discipleship and what
the Bible calls “sanctification” as we mature in our faith to become
more and more like Jesus.
*
“GOING into the world to serve and share Jesus”
(Matthew 28:19-20) As Christians, we gather and grow for the express
purpose of going into our community and world to serve our fellow
humankind (missions) and share/witness our Christian faith (evangelism).
We believe that this purpose/mission is cyclical: that
we gather, grow, and go so that others might discover the kingdom of God
for themselves, and that they, too, might one day gather, grow, and go
for God.
